Don't Let An Insatiable Appetite For More

Don't let an insatiable appetite for more

Push you to the point of regret

Know when to say enough is enough

And when to recognize a goal, a boundary, or your cravings are met.

__

It is tempting to keep wanting more

Even though you have acquired and consumed more than enough

It's tempting to say I'll just go for this one more thing - it looks so good

Even though your garage and closets are packed, and you already have too much stuff.

__

Greed for money, greed for power

Greed for appetizing food and more

We can buy, shop and eat without restraint

But trouble waits outside the door.

__

Health trouble and money troubles wait

Sleepless nights and feeling insecure

So many unwanted troubles wait in the wings

When we have an insatiable appetite for more.

__

We’ll find that enemies, thieves, and toadies

Make a beeline for our door

It will be hard to tell who's a real friend or who’s a real love

When we have an insatiable appetite for more.

__

Knock Knock Knock clamor new opportunities and temptations

They shine and have so much allure

Like the sirens, they make us lose our grip

And we lose the ability to say, "No more".

__

A word, an ad can make us mad

To have or experience this or that thing

Once it's ours, we are on the treadmill again

Looking for the next best thing.

__

Some people have lost it all dear reader

Their insatiable appetite became a run-away train

They just kept going and going and going

Until suddenly their lives were horribly changed.

__

Their health, their comfort, their relationships, their sterling character

All went for a toss

An insatiable appetite led them astray

And set them up for a grievous loss.

__

Health, comfort, relationships, and character

These are the things most worth living for

But all those precious things go out of the window

When we can't resist things with allure.

__

Yes, don't let an insatiable appetite for more, dear reader,

Push you to the point of regret

Know when to say enough is enough

And to recognize that a goal, boundary, or craving has been met.
