The more your work gets seen, the better your chances.

The more you think outside the box, the better your chances.

The more intriguing you are, the better your chances.

The broader your search, the better your chances.

The more you persevere, the better your chances.

The more in-demand skills you have, the better your chances.

The larger your skill-set, the better your chances.

The more developed your communication skills, the better your chances.

Above all, the more driven and engaged you are, the better your chances.

Better Your Chances For Good Health…

The more knowledge you acquire about diet and exercise, the better your chances.

In life, there are no guarantees.  But there are always ways to better your chances.  What are you overlooking?  What are you neglecting?  Spend some time thinking about that today.  Then create a plan of action that will better your chances.
Better your chances for a satisfying job...for good health...for good relationships.

Maybe it’s time!

Quotes to inspire you to increase your chances:

Some presidential ones:

Calvin Coolidge

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

Barack Obama

Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it’s not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.

A few more from famous scientists:

Albert Einstein

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.

Louis Pasteur

Let me tell you the secret that has led to my goal. My strength lies solely in my tenacity.

And a few more:

Sophie Swetchine

There are two ways of attaining an important end, force and perseverance; the silent power of the latter grows irresistible with time.

Mary Anne Radmacher

Courage doesn’t always roar, sometimes it’s the quiet voice at the end of the day whispering I will try again tomorrow.

How To Become The Person People Want To Work With

Have a service heart and a servant heart.

Have a giving heart, not a “gimme” heart.

Be supportive, not competitive.

Leave your prejudices and discrimination at the door.  Better still, get rid of your prejudices and discrimination altogether.  They have no place in your career, and no place in your life.

Respect people’s time.

Deliver “value” surprises.

Don’t throw your weight because of your status, competence, or experience.

Willingly give up the front seat, if it is important to someone, and they want it.

Avoid back-seat driving when you do.

Try not to hog the plum work, and the fun work.

Take one for the team, by taking on the grunt work.

Be willing to do the work no one wants to do.

Be willing to do the work that gets the least limelight.

Go with the flow.

Never fly off the handle, or give in to venting.

Be watchful of your mannerisms, ones that may disturb, offend, or annoy other people

Help the team you are on to win.  If your team had a choice to pick you, or someone else, they would pick the person who could help them win.

Give advice and guidance, only when it will be helpful and constructive.

Do not give advice and guidance when it will worsen a situation.

Learn to know when to hold your tongue.

Don’t back-bite.

Don’t play double games.

Recognize the vulnerabilities of those you work with, and step aside to accommodate them.

Make other people look good, not bad.

Be willing to take the shame and the blame.

Don’t be defensive about your mistakes.

Fess up and move on.

If you follow these simple steps, you will become the kind of person people want to work with.

Maybe it's time!

Wishing you a super career.  If you’ve blown it till now, don’t worry.  We’ve all done that, at one time or another.  Just make a pact with yourself, you will do things differently going forward.  Print the list above.  Whenever you are about to blow it…..take it out and read it.  Do each of the things I’ve recommended, until they have become second nature to you. In no time, your gig will become a blast.

Maybe It's Time To Walk In The Direction Of Your Fears

With each passing year in our life, we become more fearful. New fears are added, and our existing fears grow bigger.

But we must not let fear overtake our lives, whether it’s the fear of germs, fear of loss, fear of collapse, fear of other people, or even fear of death.

After all, when losses do happen, they come out of left field – instead of what we feared happening, something else happens, which is an even more fearful loss, something we never dreamed could happen.

So walk bravely in the direction of your fears….like you have done so many times before in your life.

Remember when you decided to move to a new city or country – that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

Remember when you decided to bravely change your career, or your life, in spite of the money and time already spent – that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

Remember when you decided to pursue a life in academics, or a life in arts, though that was not where the money was – that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

Remember when you decided to commit yourself to a spiritual life, when everyone else was still partying, or turn to a life of duty or service, when everyone else was still having fun – that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

Remember when you decided to pursue your dream….even though you were terribly afraid you would fail…..that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

Remember when you decided to give up something, even though you were really afraid of what would happen….that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

Remember when you decided to make a commitment, even though you didn’t know whether you were strong or responsible enough…that was you walking in the direction of your fears.

You never let fear stop you any of those times. Don’t let fear stop you now.

Walk bravely in the direction of your fears.

Maybe it’s Time.

Quotes to inspire you to walk in the direction of your fears:

Some presidential ones:

America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. Harry S Truman

This world of ours... must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect. Dwight D. Eisenhower

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people. John F. Kennedy

And a few more worth taking into your spirit and making your own:

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less. Marie Curie

Dare to be honest and fear no labor. Robert Burns

The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear. Brian Tracy

Maybe It's Time to Understand What Freedom Is...

Freedom is freedom from false ideas, gods, philosophies, and politics that keep you enslaved.

Freedom is freedom from unhealthy and unproductive routines that keep you from being all you can be.

Freedom is freedom from pointless protocols, pontifications and prognostications.

Freedom is freedom to act on ideas and inspirations.

Freedom is freedom to break out, break free and break through.

Freedom is freedom to speak your mind, and more importantly, to speak your heart and your truth.

Freedom is freedom from uncontrolled thoughts, words and impulses.

Freedom is freedom from irrational fears.

Freedom is freedom to craft your own unique life course.

Freedom is freedom from indiscipline and impatience.

I wish you all these freedoms and more.

When it comes to your investing, I wish you freedom from the 4 enemies of investing: sloth, ignorance, greed and fear.

When it comes to experiencing a life crisis that leads you to become depressed, I wish you freedom from the thought that “this will never end” and I hope reading this will give you hope.

When it comes to relationships, I wish you freedom from pointless thoughts and desires, and I hope you will read and act on the advice in this post.

I wish you freedom from the desire to acquire.  I hope you will create memories in your life, not clutter.

I wish you freedom from being tongue-tied.  Discover the magic that happens when you join Toastmasters.

I wish you freedom from feeling diminished by failures in your life. Failures are there to teach us no matter how much money, power, status, or charm we have, we cannot control every outcome.

I wish you freedom from an inner void caused by not feeling good enough.  You are good enough.  You were good enough before you had all you had.  You were good enough when you had all you had.  You are good enough today even with the loss of anything you had.

I wish you freedom from the insecurity of riches – from the sad situation of feeling more insecure and anxious, the more you have.  I urge you to get involved in something meaningful, or to take up a spiritual activity such as meditation.

I wish you freedom from linking your self-worth to your net worth, to what you do, what you own, or how fancy and expensive your possessions and experiences are. Instead, I urge you to link your self-worth to all that you bring to the world - as a spouse, as a parent, as a friend, as a neighbor, as a member of a family, group or community, as a team-member, as a citizen, above all, as a human being.

I wish you freedom from making foolish decisions when you are in unfamiliar terrain, whether that terrain is a sudden crisis, a new business environment, or sudden success or wealth.

I wish you freedom from being overwhelmed by your choices.  Educational choices, career choices, personal choices, life-stage choices.  Don’t get paralyzed by endless second-guessing. It will all work out.

I wish you freedom from hubris – the “do you know who I am syndrome”. Hubris makes us act in silly ways, often on incomplete information, resulting in even more humiliation.

I wish you freedom from the machinations of the subconscious.  The subconscious can keep you trapped in phobias, irrational fears and hates.

I wish you freedom from megalomania.  Megalomania means no one will tell you the truth.

I wish you freedom from narrow thinking.  Narrow thinking means you will see less of the picture; narrow thinking means you won’t be able to see your blind spots.

I wish you freedom from territorialism and bureaucracy.  Territorialism and bureaucracy kills motivation and blocks innovation.

I wish you freedom from thinking you have to be in an active/reactive mode all the time.  As Howard Marks and Charlie Munger say, if there are no ideas to act on, don’t take any action at all.

I wish you freedom from the vanities and complexities of wealth as brought out so well in this article by Nassim Taleb.

And finally, I wish you freedom from spiritual arrogance.  No matter what level of spiritual humility and control you have achieved, to think you will not have to wrestle with demons like disappointment, irritation, impatience, jealousy, envy, fear, desire, humiliation and greed, is both foolish and vain.

Maybe It's Time To Stop Making Poor Choices

Poor choices keep us down.

Sometimes we make them because we don’t know better.

But once we know better, to continue to make them is unfortunate.

It means we are learning deficient.

Don’t be learning deficient.

Try to break out of the habit of poor choices, one choice at a time.

Here are some examples of poor choices, you should try to break out of, one choice at a time…

*Not paying attention to your health

*Ignoring advice you know to be sound

*Taking senseless risks

*Repeating the behaviors and decisions which got you into your current mess

*Repeating patterns that have bad financial or legal outcomes

*Repeating behaviors that drive people away

*Repeating patterns that make the world label you as a “problem”

*Getting yourself into situations where other people have to pick up the pieces

*Not thinking about tomorrow

*Letting the precious moments of your life tick away without meaning

*Not being humble enough to admit you messed up and need direction

*Not being open to change

Messing up is human.

What you do after getting into trouble for messing up is key.

Don’t be learning deficient.

You owe it to yourself to have the best life you can have.

Think about what you can do today to kick-start that.

P.S. We are all trying to find our way through this complicated maze we call life – if we are at a dead end, we have to retrace our steps and find our way back on the path.  Sometimes it takes a cold glass of water in the face to do that.  This post is a cold glass of water in the face post. It is targeted at getting you to take meaningful steps to change your situation.
