Happy
New Year.
Happy
New Sphere.
By
Sphere, I mean the elliptical spheroid we call Earth.
Where
we are called upon to make something of an x amount of time.
How
will we choose to spend that time?
Will we make the world a better place?
Here
are some decisions - big and small - which can make the world a better place...
When we
respect each other’s differences, we make the world a better place.
When
we listen with compassion and without judgment, we make the world a better
place.
When
we go out on a limb for a just cause, we make the world a better place.
When
we adopt a child, we make the world a better place.
When
we save an animal’s life, we make the world a better place.
When
we plant a tree, we make the world a better place.
When
we bring the benefits of education to more children, we make the world a better
place.
When
we encourage someone who is trying hard, but not yet succeeding, we make the
world a better place.
When
we teach or model the right values, we make the world a better place.
When
we sacrifice, we make the world a better place.
When
we forgive, we make the world a better place.
When
we show forbearance, we make the world a better place.
When
we help someone who can’t help themselves, we make the world a better place.
When
we change ourselves and show the way, we make the world a better place.
When
we care about the suffering and the oppressed, we make the world a better place.
When we take good care of the health given
us, we make the world a better place.
When we use the resources given to us
carefully and wisely, we make the world a better place.
When we avoid greed, excess or wastage, we
make the world a better place.
I
am sure you can add to this list.
And role
models of people who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place are plenty if we
need to find them.
Here’s
one from 200 years ago.
Here’s
one from just six years ago.
And
issues are glaring if we are willing to open our eyes to them.
To
all those of you who are making the world a better place, I say to you…."You are
my hero."
To
all those of you who plan to do so as soon as you are able to….I say to you, “You
are my hero too”
Happy
New Year.
Happy
New Sphere.
I
will end with this quote from the great educator Horace Mann “Be ashamed to
die until you have won some victory for humanity.”
Indeed
each one of us has it in us to win some victory for humanity.
Thanks
for reading and see you next week….M, a Pearl Seeker like you.
P.S: This concludes my 10 part Happy New Year
series.
