Old Friends

Old friends have done life together

Have broken bread together

Drunk wine together

Laughed together

Cried together

Sung together

Danced together

Celebrated together

Argued till the cows come home together

Played games together

Listened to music together

Watched movies together

Worked out together

Had adventures together

Made waves together

Walked together

Talked together

Prayed together

Grayed together

Come up with ideas together

Traded thoughts together

Looked at pictures together

Shopped together

Debated things together

Helped each other move

Helped each other groove

Old friends have done life together

And created precious memories, and a nourishing ecosystem, for each other, along the way.

Hope you enjoyed reading this friendship piece, as much as I enjoyed writing it. What are the things I missed? Let me know. I will add them before you can say "old friend".

Also, here's something to think about...what is your favorite friendship movie or story?  And why is it your favorite friendship movie or story?

I Hope We Keep Dancing Our Sweet, But Imperfect Dance

I say left, you go right
I say time to sleep, you say whoa, too early to call it a night
I say let’s order just enough, you say let’s order up a storm
I say let’s get up and hit the gym, you say let’s skip and sleep through the morn.

And we meet somewhere in the middle
We meet somewhere in the middle, every time.
And I hope we keep doing our sweet, but imperfect dance
I hope we keep doing our sweet, but imperfect dance, all of our lives.

I say let’s watch something romantic or funny
You say let’s watch something sad
I say I wish it was less noisy in this place
You say, I don't think it's all that bad.

And we meet somewhere in the middle
We meet somewhere in the middle, every time.
And I I hope we keep doing our sweet, but imperfect dance
I hope we keep doing our sweet, but imperfect dance, all of our lives.

I look at a situation and say we should do something
You look at a situation and say we shouldn’t worry
I  say but, what if this or that happens
You say, nothing will happen, just take it easy.

And we meet somewhere in the middle
We meet somewhere in the middle, every time.
And I hope we keep doing our imperfect, but sweet dance
Our imperfect, but oh, so sweet dance.
I hope we keep doing it all of our lives.

I say wanna go for a walk
You say a day at the beach or pool sounds like more fun
I say the weather’s perfect for a leisurely hike
You say “not even”, it's perfect for a run.

And we meet somewhere in the middle
We meet somewhere in the middle, every time
And I hope we keep doing our imperfect, but sweet dance
Our imperfect, but oh so sweet dance that I love
I hope we keep doing our imperfect dance
All of our lives.

I say let’s have Chinese today
You say let’s do Subway
I say wanna do that home project we’ve been putting off
You say let’s get out the board games and play.

And we meet somewhere in the middle
We meet somewhere in the middle, every time
And I hope we keep doing our imperfect, but sweet dance
Our imperfect, but oh, so sweet dance that I love
I hope we keep doing our dance all of our lives.

                        ***************************

A shout out to all those imperfect, but oh, so sweet couples, whether you are newly engaged, newly married, or getting ready to celebrate another long-committed or wedding anniversary. Keep dancing all of your lives.  Keep dancing, y'all!💕

Inspired by a recent family engagement, and thinking about all the many wonderful couples I know, who like wine and cheese, are not the same, but are still perfect together. Keep dancing, y’all!

That "Why Me!" Thought...

That "why me" thought that wants to take up permanent residence in your spirit...

Let it go
Show it the door
Just say no
Tell it, it's gotta go
Tel it there's no place for it in your show
Show it the door
Let it go

Let it go
Let it go

That "poor me" thought that wants to feed off your doubts and insecurities, and get fat...

Say to it, scat
Take it to the mat
Say I am done with "poor me" thoughts like that
Let it go
Show it the door

Let it go
Let it go

That "I'm such a loser" thought that says it's your ally...

Cut ties
Make it the bad guy and tell it to fly
Fill it with helium and send it high
Say I am not falling for your lies
Take it to the mat
Say I am done with that
Let it go
Show it the door

Let it go
Let it go

That "I can't" thought that squashes all your "I cans"...

Issue a ban
It's not your friend, it's not your fan
Don't let it raise its ugly head and spoil all your plans
Plug your ears and say "I am not listening to you, la la la la la," as loud as you can
Take it to the mat
Say I am done with that
Let it go
Show it the door

Let it go
Let it go

That "I am so unlucky" thought that shows up when bad things happen to you, or good things happen to other people, as a faithful afterthought...

Cut its work short
Send it to the dirt heap to rot
Say to it, your presence is a blot
Tell it you are not going to let it stay, and do the fox trot
Take it to the mat
Say I am done with that
Let it go
Show it the door

Let it go
Let it go

That's "it's too late for me" thought that goes round and round and round...

And drowns every hopeful and happy sound
Tell it to buzz off, you don't want it around
Stomp your feet and say,  no, you can't keep me down
I'm gonna dance to a different sound
I 'm gonna keep going and covering ground
I'm gonna keep aiming for a touchdown
It's never too late
La la la la la

Tell it
Tell it

Let it go
Let it go

Show all those thoughts the door
All of them gotta go
All of them gotta go
Gotta go
So you can get on with the show

The show you were born to put on!

The show that has no place for "why me", "poor me", "I'm so unlucky", "I can't" "it's too late" ,
"why me", "poor me", "I'm so unlucky", "I can't" "it's too late"

The curtain is rising
They gotta go!
