Maybe It's Time To Rethink Your Options

Reflexive options (the ones we come up with by reflex) are different from deliberated options and inspired options.

Inspired options are often the best options.

Rethink your options when it comes to career choices and moves

Don’t make the mistake of reflexively thinking you need ‘more money’ or a ‘promotion’. Many more factors are involved in a satisfying career move – a good commute, flexible working hours, a sane work schedule, a supportive manager, autonomy, exciting work, an opportunity to make a contribution, an opportunity to grow, an environment in which you feel valued – all these are worth more than 'more money' or a 'promotion'.

Also, if you’ve been doing one thing for a long time, and you are not getting results from trying to continue in that line of work, you should think about doing something new.

Don’t get stuck in the mindset of “I have done it for aeons - it is the only thing I can do”.

Don’t get stuck in “unproductive”.

The default option is clearly not working for you.

An open mind is the best asset.

If you are frustrated and stuck career wise, use it to become unstuck and unfrustrated.

Rethink your options when it comes to managing your money

Do you think you have to quickly accumulate money, or get left behind? Wipe the notion from your mind.

As Jason Kelly says in his book ‘Financially Stupid People are Everywhere’, you can make the most money by paying off your high interest credit cards and your high-interest debt.

Depending on what interest you are paying, you can make 15% - 30%.

Compare that with the average stock market return of 7% per year.

The choice is clear.

Why be financially stupid and chase stock market and other 'lower investing returns’ when, as Kelly says, you can put so much more in your pocket, just by avoiding or paying off high interest debt.

He recommends saving to pay for things rather than resorting to the default option of debt.

Getting into the habit of saving (he recommends 20% of your take home pay) will help you steer clear of making ‘high-priced purchases with high-priced debt' that takes years and forever to pay off.

Regards investing, rethink your need to “make a fast buck”.

The sooner you realize trying to “make a fast buck,” comes with taking on unnecessary and stupid risk;  the sooner you understand not losing money is more important than making money (to quote Warren Buffett), the sooner you will adopt a sane investing philosophy with sane time horizons for the money you do invest.

Rethink your options when it comes to your health

Don’t make the mistake of passively accepting your current health state, and thinking your only option is to see your doctor regularly, and take all the medicines you are prescribed.

Find out what diet and lifestyle modifications you can adopt to improve your health.

Find out how people with the very same condition as you, have dramatically halted or reversed their condition.

Click on my post The Element of Focus.  In it, you will read some of the things I am doing (and you can do if you are in the same boat) to reverse a very common problem among those of Asian Indian and Chinese descent, Middle Easterns, and increasingly, a larger and larger population of Americans.

Rethink your options about dealing with other people

Threats, ultimatums, whining and complaining, lecturing, telling people what you think of them, writing people off, being indifferent, being combative, or taking revenge, are reflexive options, and they all have one thing in common – they are unproductive.

None of them will help you succeed in your relationships, or getting people to do what you want them to do.

Become more reflective and observant in situations that upset you and don’t go your way.

Awareness and quiet reflection are the best tools to deal with interpersonal relations.

If all else fails, become spiritual.

No man or woman is an island. As soon as you become spiritual, you will feel a strong connection with people, and your "me vs them" or "us vs them" feelings will go away.

Maybe It's Time To Take Stock

When you take stock, you can decide what to keep in your life, and what to discard.

Take stock of everything in your house.  Make 2 piles.  Keep. Discard.  Keep only what adds value and meaning and comfort in your life.

Take stock of everything in your storage.  Make 2 piles.  KeepDiscard. If your “keep” pile is linked to an “imagined future”, you may want to look over everything again.  Will it withstand the tests of time?  Will it be in fashion, and still functional when that “imagined future” happens?  Will you be the same person then?  Will it still have value?

Take stock of your possessions, even your most prized possessions - your souvenirs, your cars, your horses, your cellar, your guns, your stamps, your coins, your collections. Make 2 piles.  KeepDiscard. Do your possessions make sense in your current context, or in the context of where your future is headed? Are they just addictions? Are they costing you your peace and sanity? Are they costing you more than they are worth?

Take stock of your routines.  Make 2 piles.  KeepDiscard.  What shows or channels on tv, or websites on your computer, are you addicted to?  Are they worth keeping in your routine? What are you gaining by doing so?  More importantly, what are you losing?  What new routines that will be good for your life can you make way for by discarding some of your current routines?

Take stock of your habits.  Make 2 piles.  KeepDiscard. Discard any habits that are a drain on your resources, or drive people away from you, rather than towards you.

Take stock of your reactions playbook.  Your reactions to someone arriving late, someone leaving early, someone not doing something you asked them to do.  Make 2 piles.  KeepDiscard.  Discard any and all reactions that are non-effective.

Take stock of your attitude.  Make 2 piles.  KeepDiscard.  Pride, stubbornness, resentment go in the discard pile.  Also discard negativity.  A negative spirit is worse than the worst thing that can happen to you.  When all else fails, only your spirit will sustain you.  Maintain a positive spirit.

Take stock of the company you keep. Make 2 piles.  Keep. Discard. Make sure the company you keep enables you to spend your time constructively; and to build your life, rather than destroy it.

Speaking of company, you have to enjoy your own company, in order to take stock of what to keep, and what to discard in your life.

Learn to enjoy your own company – for an hour a day, an hour a week, or an hour a month.

Use that time to take stock and to decide what to keep in your life, and what to discard.

Soon, you will have less in your life, but it will mean infinitely more.

                ***************************************
Guide  as to what you should keep in your life. I urge you to print it and look at it once a week…

A spiritual activity that feeds your soul.  Keep.

A creative activity which allows you to use your talents and express yourself. Keep.

A physical activity that nourishes your body.  Keep.

A mental activity that feeds your brain and expands your knowledge.  Keep.

A social activity that makes you feel a connection to another human being.  Keep.

Maybe It's Time To Forget...

Put the past behind you

Retire the regrets, the what-ifs, the maybes…..

You can’t get yesterday back.

But you have today.

Open the window. Look at how beautiful it is outside.

Make a fresh start

Not a somewhat, kind of, sort of fresh start….

A real fresh start.

One that will have you saying in the future…

“I was living in the past…not anymore.  It’s different now”

“I am so glad I am not in that place I used to be”

Live more appreciatively

Affirm all that is good in your life.

With all of life’s blows, there’s so much to be thankful for.

Open your eyes, so you don’t miss it.

Feel good about the future

Replace your expectations with expectancy.

Get excited about the possibilities.

Anticipate all the good possibilities, not just the bad possibilities.

Yes, if you want to thrive, work on your “Forget” playbook.

It is every bit as important as your “Remember” playbook.

Start your “Forget” playbook today.

Maybe It’s Time.

Maybe It's Time To Remember...

Maybe It’s Time To Remember…

Remember…

If you have done it before, you can do it again.

Give it another shot.

                  ***********************************************
Maybe It’s Time To Remember…

Remember…

If you have not paid attention to something, pay attention.

Give something 100% of your attention, and see if you don't get better results.

                  ***********************************************
Maybe It’s Time To Remember…

Remember…

If you take up something, how you exit is just as important as how you begin.

No more burnt bridges. Fill your exit playbook with swan songs.

                ***********************************************
Maybe It’s Time To Remember…

Remember…

Whatever the problem, use your imagination, your ability to see problems as puzzles, your ability to deal with constraints.

Don't vent, invent.

                ***********************************************
Maybe It’s Time To Remember…

Remember...

If you have money, a house, a job, but you don’t have good relationships, or peace, a spiritual life may be what you are missing.

Feed your spirit, not your ego.

               ***********************************************
Remember...

It's not what you are experiencing, it's how you react to what you are experiencing.

Maybe it’s time!
