Can 2018 be your best year ever?
It sure can.
Here are 18 ways to spend your 2018 days, so you can make it your most fulfilling year in years. Or even your most fulfilling year ever...
1. Be active.
Spend less time consuming. Spend more time acting.
Use your hands, your legs, your eyes, your ears, your body, your mind. Turn
your ideas into actions. Inspiration is
insufficient. You have to act.
2.
Be authentic.
Be honest and transparent. Own your situation. Own
your choices. Own your past. Own your present.
3.
Be wise.
Take time to make your choices. Take time before
you react, or before you respond, to what other people say and do.
4.
Be simple.
Don’t make it difficult for people to spend time
with you. Don’t make it difficult for people to engage with you. Don't be so caught up with expectations, or things, that people feel uncomfortable under your roof, or around you.
5.
Be intentional.
Plan what you are going to do. Then do it.
6.
Be confident.
Don’t second guess yourself. If you do something, and
it doesn’t work, it’s not the end of the world. Don’t be scared to try things.
Don’t blow the dangers out of proportion.
7.
Be committed.
If you decide to engage in something, keep at
it. Don’t give up. Be committed. See it
through.
8.
Be independent.
Whatever you can do yourself, do it. The more things you
learn to do by yourself, the less disappointment, frustration, and aggravation you will experience; the better most situations will go for you.
9.
Be available.
Be totally present, when you are with people –
whether in person, or on the phone. Find time for the people who matter to you, and show them your respect. Show them your respect off the bat, by being punctual, by being
attentive, by being appropriate, and by being engaged.
10.
Be content.
Appreciate the unique blessings, the unique resources,
the unique talents, and the unique opportunities which you have had in the past, and which you currently have. Don't get stuck mourning what you once had, but no longer do.
11. Be
discerning.
Know which temptations to give in to, which temptations
to avoid.
12. Be
flexible.
When there’s a problem, don’t become part of the
problem.
13. Be
humble.
Don’t get caught up in “Who do you think you are
talking to? I will show you.” Say “sorry” quickly. End friction as soon as possible.
14. Be
principled.
Don’t let fear, inconvenience, greed, laziness, or
lust, steer you from the path of integrity into doing something shameful.
15. Be
resourceful.
Don’t reflexively say “I don’t know”. Use the
internet and other resources, to find answers to problems. Use your
resourcefulness to help other people. Engage.
16. Be
teachable.
Be open to the ideas and wisdom of other people,
especially those who are older, more experienced, or more reflective than
you. Give a chance for the magic of "other people's wisdom" to
work on you. Broaden the set of tools you use to deal with life situations, by using the wisdom from outside that's available to you.
17. Be
stoic.
Make an effort to see things from a higher point of view, no matter hard it is. Use meditation to help you accept hardships, difficulties, and other people’s
viewpoints and behaviors, no matter how different they are from your own.
18. Be
light.
Be able to move on. Let old wounds go. Let new
wounds go. Don’t hold onto grudges and resentments, and let them curdle like
spoiled milk in your brain. Don’t get stuck. Don’t let pointless baggage steal the joy of your present. Let go of it. Move on. Be light.
